What Are Full Arch Implant Restorations?

Full arch implant restorations are artificial tooth replacements that offer stability and longevity, allowing you to enjoy a new, complete, and healthy smile as you walk through life. Commonly made of titanium, these posts, which are usually between four and six, are positioned and surgically placed along your jawbone. They create a stable foundation for your new denture, which will later be attached so that you can take advantage of the many benefits these teeth provide.

There are three types of full arch implant restorations you can choose from, all of which we will discuss with you during your consultation.

Hybrid Dentures

Hybrid dentures cannot be removed by anyone other than a dental professional. You must have ample jawbone density to support the 4-6 implant posts that are required; otherwise, you’ll need to undergo a bone graft beforehand. Also, you will clean your teeth as normal while wearing your full arch implant restorations.

Overdentures

Overdentures are also referred to as “Snap-on” dentures because they can be removed for cleaning, if necessary. These are held in place with a ball-retained or bar-retained device, which makes it easy to remove and insert your teeth. They typically only need between 2 and 5 implant posts, which means less jawbone density is required.

All-On-X

All-On-X uses fewer dental implants to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Generally, we use 4 to 6 implants, placing them in the jawbone to support a fully customized denture that is secured in place. This option is viable for those who lack sufficient bone density but desire a more permanent form of tooth replacement.

The Full Arch Implant Restorations Process

Receiving full arch implant restorations requires a multi-step process. First, you must meet with one of our dentists to discuss your eligibility. While most people can receive full arch implant restorations, we must first determine whether you require additional treatment (i.e., gum disease treatment, tooth extraction, bone grafting).

Once you are cleared for dental implant surgery, we’ll begin by administering local anesthesia to numb your mouth. You will feel no discomfort once we open your gum tissue and insert each implant post into the designated area of your mouth. Ensuring they are positioned correctly, we will close the gum tissue and place protective healing caps over each one.

You’ll then be required to spend the next 3-6 months allowing your implants to integrate with the bone tissues through a process known as osseointegration. Once you’re fully healed, you will return to our office to receive your final restoration. Your denture will be crafted according to the specifications provided by our team. We will secure it in place so you can begin experiencing life with a full set of teeth again.

Am I a Candidate for Full Arch Implant Restorations?

Most individuals who have lost an entire row of teeth can receive full arch implant restorations. The one caveat is that you may need additional treatment before undergoing surgery. If we detect signs of gum disease during our examination, we will need to address it with the appropriate treatment. The same is true for severely decayed teeth that need extraction or a jawbone that lacks essential density. Bone grafting or a sinus lift may be necessary to ensure the success of implant placement.

Benefits of Combining Dentures & Full Arch Implant Restorations

While there are technically two options for full mouth tooth replacement – traditional dentures and full arch implant restorations – combining the two to create a single solution has its benefits. They include:

  • Greater stimulation to the jawbone so that future loss doesn’t occur
  • The ability to enjoy a new set of teeth for 30 years or even a lifetime
  • The ability to eat all your favorite foods because you don’t need to worry about artificial teeth slipping
  • Improved speech clarity that helps boost your confidence, no matter where or who you are around
  • A natural-looking appearance
